Anthony Barnett (London, OK): “I take the view that it is part of being a good citizen, proving who you are, day in day out” Liam Byrne MP, the Minister of State for Immigration, Citizenship & Nationality, told a Chatham House conference today, after telling the Today programme ID cards would become a great British institution, like the Poll Tax perhaps. For the full speech and blow-by-blow expose of its argument see UK Liberty. Most of the public still think that an ID card is something you have, not something that has you. This speech may help dispel the illusion.
